Charles Auguste, son of Charles Auguste and Louisa Pierrehumbert, was born in 1827 at Neuchatel in Switzerland. He married Marie Elizabeth Messerly in 1857. In 1864 the couple emigrated to Australia on the Golden Land. They arrived with the following children: Marie (aged 6), married David Moodie in 1877, died in 1937 in Geelong, buried in the Presbyterian section of the Geelong Western Public Cemetery Elvina (aged 1), married William McCarey in 1885, died on 28 December 1924 aged 61 years at 6 Cunningham Street, South Yarra Eugenie was born at sea, married Charles Robert Stokes in 1890, died in 1934 at Heidelberg Eight children were born in Australia: Edward Auguste — born in 1865 at Duneed, married Mary Clarke Ilett in 1888, died in 1942 at Warragul Pauline Elise — born in 1867 at Ceres, died in 1933 aged 66 years at Richmond, cremated at Fawkner Memorial Park on 27 August 1933 Alphonse — born in 1868 at Ceres, married Isabel Bessant 1897, died in 1946 at Heyfield Charles Auguste — born in 1870 at Ceres, died on 19 November 1943 aged 73 years at Fremantle Arthur Gustav — born in 1872 at Batesford Lucy Louisa — born in 1874 at Batesford, died in 1954 at Surrey Hills Louisa Ada — born in 1876 at Mount Duneed, died in 1941 at Camberwell Adele Rose — born in 1880 at Buln Buln, died in 1949 at Geelong Th;e couple leased a cottage built by Charles Rowand together with 38 acres of land at Mount Duneed where they grew grapes until the phylloxera disease put an end to the vineyards in the area in the late 1870s. They then moved to Warragul. Charles Auguste died on 5 July 1910 at Dandenong. Marie died in her sleep on 15 December 1917 aged 80 years of heart failure, at Durdidwarrah, near Steiglitz. She was 80 years of age and a colonist of 50 years. She had been living with her daughter at the time of her death, but her daughter had gone to Geelong for a holiday and she had been left in the care of a neighbour. She was buried at Meredith Cemetery. |

Charles Auguste Pierrehumbert is my friend Daryll's gg grandfather his g grandfather was Edward Auguste. Daryll grew up in Buln Buln
