Francis Henry Stacey was born in Geelong in 1863 to unknown parents. On 23 February 1887 he married Catherine Mary Danger at the High Church, Geelong. He lived at Rock Hill Farm at Mount Duneed. He leased the 60 acre farm on the north east corner of Torquay and Lower Duneed Roads from Mrs Jane Lamond. They had the following children while living at Mount Duneed: Frances Ellen — born 1888 Ida Victoria — born 1890, died 13 October 1916, buried in the Presbyterian section of Mount Duneed Cemetery Herbert William Francis (Bert) — born 1891, married Gertrude Eliza Middleton in 1927, died 20 January 1977 at Buckley, buried at the Geelong Western Cemetery Francis Samuel Edward — born 1893, married Mary Eadey, died 14 October 1951 at Barwon Heads (pictured at right), buried at Mount Duneed Cemetery Jesse Lily Margaret — born 1895, married John Henry Herbert Lemaitre, died 1959 at Geelong Malcolm Robert — born 1897, married Myrtle Thelma Gogoll in 1927, died 1952 Frederick Henry — born 1899, died 12 November 1917 at Geelong, buried at Mount Duneed Cemetery Alice Elizabeth — born 1904, died 1906 at Mount Duneed, buried at Mount Duneed Cemetery Donald Clarence — born 26 February 1907, married Florrie Letitia Cameron, died 1970 at East Geelong, buried in the lawn section of the Geelong Eastern Cemetery Clifford Ross — born 1909, married Elizabeth Helen Cameron (Betty), died 1975 at South Geelong, buried in the lawn section of the Geelong Eastern Cemetery Samuel James — born 1913 at Geelong, died the same year, buried at Mount Duneed Cemetery Maxwell — born 1914 at Geelong, died 1981 Francis died on 9 September 1934 at Geelong. Catherine died on 30 May 1943 at a son's residence in South Geelong. They were buried together in the Presbyterian section of the Mount Duneed Cemetery | Family photos contributed by Bryon Clissold Private Francis Samuel Stacey 3989 served in France and returned to Australia in 1918. He drowned while fishing from rocks at Barwon Heads on 14 October 1951. He was one of six soldiers from Mount Duneed who sailed on the same day, 8 February 1916, on the HMAT Warilda. Also on the same ship were: Clarence Edward James Batson Victor Christopher Hanlon (Vic) The hospital troopship HMAT Warilda (A69), which was taken over by the Admiralty in June 1916 and converted to a hospital ship manned by an Australian crew. Originally operating with a brightly coloured paint scheme, the ship was camouflaged early in 1917 after Germany stated all vessels operating in the English Channel would be attacked. After most of the Australian crew returned to Australia in May 1917, a German submarine sunk Warilda off Le Havre on 3 August 1918 when it was fully loaded with patients and medical personnel. |

Francis Henry Stacey's parents were William and Catherine Stacey who emigrated from Cornwall in 1849. They were also related to me. Catherine was my 3rd great grandfather's sister. They came out her together with his family.
