Marion, daughter of James and Marian (née McKeand) McQueen was born at Wigtownshire in Scotland in 1838. Aged 14 years she arrived at Point Henry on the Flora on 23 October 1852 with her parents and siblings: James — age 52 Marion — age 42 Jean — age 18 George — age 17 John — age 16 William — age 12 James — age 9 Elizabeth — age 7 Agnes — age 3 The McQueens settled first in the Geelong area and established a transport business which serviced the new goldfields at Ballarat and Bendigo for almost 20 years. Their second daughter, Marion, married Simon Lugg at their home at Duneed on 18 May 1867. Simon was the fifth son of William and Eleanor (née Skewes) Lugg. He arrived in Australia on 23 October 1852 aged 12 years. Marion and Simon had the following children: Marion Eleanor — born in 1870 at Duneed, married John Smith in 1890, died on 8 July 1939 at Waurn Ponds William James — born in 1872 at Mount Moriac, died on 20 November 1948 at Geelong Samuel John — born in 1873 at Mount Moriac, died in 1943 at Ballarat Edward Henry — born in 1876 at Barrabool, died on 1 June 1960 aged 84 years at Geelong, buried in the Presbyterian section of the Mount Duneed Cemetery with his mother Mary Elizabeth Ellen — born in 1878 at Mount Moriac, married Charles Albert Hammond in 1903 at Geelong, died in 1957 at Geelong Marion died on 3rd June 1880 and was buried in the Presbyterian section of the Mount Duneed Cemetery. | Simon married Marion née Ohlenrott in 1882 and the couple had five children: Frederick George — born in 1882 at Geelong, married Alice Jane Knight in 1913, died on 6 June 1947 at Waurn Ponds, buried in the Methodist section of the Geelong Eastern Cemetery Emily Alice — born in 1884 at Carlton, married Henry George Dyer in 1913, died on 16 April 1923 at a private hospital in Lismore, buried in the Methodist section of the Highton cemetery Clarence — born in 1885 at Geelong, married Alvina Flora Ethel Baum in 1921, died on 28 May 1991, buried in the lawn section of the Geelong Eastern Cemetery Agnes Jane — born in 1888 at Geelong, married Thomas Ernest Watson in 1915, died on 10 September 1966 at Geelong aged 79 years, buried in the lawn section of the Highton Cemetery Mary Augusta — born in 1891 at Geelong, died on 2 April 1892 aged 10 months at her parents' home at Waurn Ponds, buried in an unknown location at the Highton Cemetery Marion died on 30 November 1916 and was buried in the Methodist section of the Highton Cemetery. Simon died in 1923 at Waurn Ponds and was buried with her. |
