Roderick Impey, son of John and Mary Ann (née Roberts) Murchison farmed at Jan Juc (Bellbrae) from 1878. He had leased his land from the estate of Joseph Gundry and it included the homestead "Llanberis". He became a Barrabool Shire councillor for the Coast Riding in 1881 and served until 1884. In 1888 he left the district. In 1882 he was appointed as a magistrate for the southern bailiwick. In 1892 he was manager of the Bank of New South Wales. He married Julia Rose Urquhart in 1860 and they had the following children: John Henry — born 1861 in Kerrisdale Philip Douglas — born 1871 at Kilmore Edith Jane — died in 1874 Julia Mabel — married William Fenton McCulloch on 15 February 1915 at St Mary's Cathedral in Hobart After Roderick's wife Julia died on 9 December 1875 aged 30, he married Alice Maud Whitton in 1878. They had the following children: Kenneth John — born 1879 at Melbourne Helen Elizabeth — born 1882 at Melbourne In 1892 he was insolvent. This was caused by his inability to collect debts from India. Roderick died on 16 October 1914 aged 82 at 17 The Crofts in Richmond. He left business assets of £160. | |
