John Walker Roberts married Elizabeth Gardener Mead. They had the following children:

Walter Henry (Harry) — born in 1853 at Ashby, died on 15 June 1927 at 47 Cromwell Street in Croydon in NSW
Frank Edward — born in 1855 at Ashby, died the same year aged 2 months
Amos Mead — born in 1856
Frederick William Albert — born in 1859 at Geelong, died on 26 August 1917
Isaac Oscar Garibaldi — born in 1861 in Geelong
Arthur Albert — born in 1863 at Geelong, died in 1921
Henry — born in 1866 at Geelong, died the same year aged 1 month
In 1864 John was a member of the Anglican School Committee. He was a grocer, a Wesleyan and a trustee of the Geelong Vineyard Company.
He was a South Barwon councillor serving from 1862 until 1866.
On 3 April 1870 the family left for London on the Orwell. They later settled in Sydney.
John died on 18 October 1911 at his residence, "Seven Trees", in Denison Road, Lewisham and was buried the following day in the Methodist Cemetery at Rookwood.
